First rate training in the field of weather for road workers is an important requirement for all surveyors of highways and people in charge of snow clearing and gritting.
Each year in the autumn, MeteoSwiss holds road travel weather courses for people in charge of snow clearing, gritting, etc.

From 1 November to 30 April, every day our meteorologists compile a detailed road travel weather forecast for the coming night and the next day. These forecasts include information on temperature, cloud, precipitation, the snow line and hazards. This provides you with the means enabling you to plan snow clearing and gritting activities or other work in good time. This special forecast is drawn up for 7 regions in German-speaking Switzerland and for the northern part of the Canton of Grisons. It is also available in (French-speaking) Western Switzerland. During the winter months, our forecasting office, which is manned night and day, broadcasts information on potential hazards as necessary. It issues a warning if at least 5 cm of snow is expected, as well as regional black ice and freezing rain. Get warnings of hazardous situations by SMS text message.

Service operations that are heavily dependent on the current weather situation can obtain special server software from MeteoSwiss. Using it, you can assess the up-to-date weather situation in the farthest corners of Switzerland from your PC. A new service offers you the same data and forecasts via the Internet using a personal access system.
